What is “Food Hall”? An interesting place that we can meet in Iceland. That is, a building with various restaurants and bars. Something that can be found in shopping malls in other countries. However, here the food is not garbage but something good, nutritious and fresh.
How did we get here?
This place was on our list, but the day actually started a little earlier on the coast in ??Stokkseyri? where there was low tide and a very strong wind.
We accidentally came across a group of children from a nearby school who were participating in some kind of challenge. Since there was no one else in the area except us, we were as sought after as Hollywood stars.
Need for an lunch
Since we were nearby, we came up with the idea to go to Selfoss to see where we could eat something good. This is how we ended up at The Old Dairy Food Hall – Mjólkurbúi? Mathöll.
The Old Dairy Food Hall – Mjólkurbúi? Mathöll
According to the date on the building, this place has been in existence since 1929. The hall is located at Eyravegur 1 800, 800 Selfoss, Iceland. There are 8 restaurants inside. Prices range from 2000 – 4000 Icelandic Krona.
What about food at The Old Dairy Food Hall?
As you can see in the video, the restaurants are along the walls and the place to sit is in the middle. Water is free, as in all of Iceland, don’t be fooled by bottled water, it’s exactly the same in the tap. You order food at the bar where you get a buzzer. We wait for the alarm and answer it. Our choice fell on more Icelandic cuisine. Below you can see the menu with prices. We chose “Fish & Chips”.
Food was very good. Fresh fish from the morning catch. The fries are very good, you can feel the frying fresh. After a hearty and very tasty lunch, we went to see what else was there.
Selfoss center
All this is very small by European standards. Next to The Old Dairy Food Hall – Mjólkurbúi? Mathöll there is a large square, and on the side of the square there is an interesting street. My first association is a combination of the US and Icelandic style.
